#112 San Nicolò's Cathedral - Pietra Ligure
#112 San Nicolò's Cathedral - Pietra Ligure

Claiming to be the widest church in Northern Italy you can enjoy the whole space from any viewpoint. What at first glance appears to be architectural features such as friezes and columns are in fact frescos, colours which were soaked into freshly made plaster, meaning they have lasted the test of time without fading. The frescos are by the Genoese painter Luigi Sacco, who started to work on them in 1867. There are eight of them in the chancel and thirty-three in the aisle and in the shrines.
The church was inaugurated on 25th December 1791, and was consecrated one hundred years later in 1891.
